Mamata meets Governor to demand Front Govt's dismissal
Kolkata, Jul 30(UNI) Maintaining that the CPI(M) was continuing state terrorism in Nandigram, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today met West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi to demand dismissal of the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Government.
" I condemn the police firing in Khammam. But if the CPI(M) can demand resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajshekhara Reddy for the incident, then why should not our Chief Minister resign owning responsibility for the Nandigram massacre," she asked reporters after coming out of the Raj Bhavan.
Alleging that the CPI(M) was pursuing with a politics of violence to unleash fresh terrorism in Nandigram, Ms Banerjee said while the Andhra Pradesh Government had already ordered a judicial inquiry into the Khammam incident, no trial of the guilty had been conducted for the March 14 incident in Nandigram nor any compensation had been given to the families of the victims.
" This Chief Minister has no moral right to stay even for a moment," she said.
Ms Banerjee, who was accompanied by several party leaders, including Mr Partha Chatterjee, the Leader of the Oppposition in the West Bengal Assembly, requested the Governor to use his good office for compensation and rehabilitation of the Nandigram victims.
" The Governor told me that he too wanted peace to return in Nandigram. He said he would act according to the constitution," she said.
