Kerala to make seat belts mandatory from August 1

Kozhikode, July 30 (UNI) Wearing seat belts will be made mandatory in four-wheelers in Kerala from August 1, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishan said today .

Addressing a meeting of senior police officers here, he said the rule would be applicable to front seat occupants.

The defaulters would be penalised appropriately, he added.

The decision on making fastening seat belts compulsory was taken as part of a series of road safety measures to be implemented to avoid the increasing number of road accidents in the state, the Minister said.

The Government had recently made helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders in the State.
