IG-level inquiry ordered into derogatory remarks on Shivaji
Mumbai, July 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today announced an Inspector General (IG)-level inquiry into an incident, where a lecturer allegedly passed derogatory remarks against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Diwakar Raote (Shiv Sena) raised the issue and said that M A Suryavanshi, a lecturer with Janata Shikshan Mandal, Alibaug, had allegedly said that ''Shivaji was a 'lootera' (plunderer)'' during one of his lectures in a third year BA class on July 14.
Mr Raote said Mr Suryanvashi also made two other derogatory comments which were objected by student Kishor Nathuram Kajare, who later wrote a letter to the college principal about the incident and later the news item got published about the same all over, he said.
He said the students later blackened the face of Mr Suryavanshi.
The police registered a complaint against 200 students banning assembly of the students.
Replying to the issue, Mr Patil said an IG-level inquiry would be conducted into the incident and the cases registered against the students will be withdrawn.
