Heavy rains affect roads, trees and traffic in Mumbai

Mumbai, July 30 (UNI) Incessant rains since yesterday has resulted in normal life, including rail and road traffic being thrown out of gear in this commercial metropolis inconveniencing the citizens.

The fire brigade and other disaster management agencies were kept on their toes with complaints of tree falls, road blocks, flooding in low lying areas and other incidents in the city.

According to a release issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 8 trees have fallen in the city (from Colaba to Mahim), 6 in the Western Suburbs and 5 in the Eastern Suburbs.

One house in Mankhurd and one in Worli was affected by the heavy rains and parts of the houses had fallen down.

Water was accumulated due to rains in areas like M Gandhi Cross Marg in Kandivali, Kasturba Police Station in Borivali, Adarsh Nagar in Jogeshwari, Byculla Police Station, Lower Parel and many other low lying places due to heavy rains.

The most affected areas during heavy rains were the subways and according to the release the water was drained out from Andheri, Malad and Milan sub-ways with the help of the pumping-engines installed in these areas.

The area was affected and the traffic held up for some time due to the rains and was cleared after some time.

The trains on the Central Railway was delayed by 15 minutes and the trains on the Western Railways were running as per the schedule.

The BEST bus routes from Amulak High School in Wadala and Parel TT were diverted by the administration.

A 25 year old youth fell in a drain near Mankhurd Station and was declared brought dead by the doctors from Rajawadi hospital.

In the last 24 hours when the city received heavy rains, Colaba received 83.2 mm of rains and Santacruz received 98.9 mm of rains.
