Gujarat town gets piped natural gas

Khambhat, Gujarat, July 30 (UNI) Gujarat Minister for Energy and Petrochemicals Saurabhbhai Patel today inaugurated the City Gas Distribution Project here and laid the foundation stone for the Dhuwaran-Khambhat Gas Pipeline project.

GSPC Gas Company Ltd, promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC), has taken up the task of setting up City Gas Distribution projects in 23 cities of Gujarat.

In order to provide clean, green and efficient auto fuel, the company has tied up with existing oil companies at prime locations in Khambhat region and the first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station shall be commissoned in December 2007. The Company has already six CNG stations and construction of another 15 at different locations are in progress, a GSPC release said here today.

As a part of the Gujarat Government's vision to provide piped gas to the cities, GSPC has taken the lead in setting up city gas distribution projects and has already started gas supply to Gandhinagar, Vapi, Sarigam, Hazira, Anand, Nadiad, Chandkheda, Himmatnagar, Morbi and Thangadh.

In cities such as Valsad, Navsari, Nadiad and Rajkot, the gas supply will commence in the third quarter of this year, release said.

The Piped Natural Gas system is a use-and-pay system with a continuous supply similar to electricity, eliminating the hassles of exchanging cylinders and maintaining extra cylinders.
