Hyderabad, July 30 (UNI) Describing July 28 as a 'black day', Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President K Keshava Rao today said the state government had immediately responded to the Mudigonda police firing by ordering a judicial inquiry into it.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here, he said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had announced the highest compensation to the families of the victims.

He alleged that the CPI and the CPI(M) sponsored land agitation in the state had not helped the poor people.

Though the government had agreed to the Left parties' main demands, the parties organised the bandh with a political motive, he alleged.

The government had agreed to the Left parties' demands for implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee Recommendations, appointment of a Commission for solving land-related issues and withdrawal of cases registered against the party workers during the land agitation in the state.

He said the TDP, which did not distribute lands and construct houses for the poor during its regime, was now demanding it for gaining political mileage.

He urged the Left and TDP not to politicise the unfortunate incident, but play a constructive role of a responsible opposition.
