Flood toll reaches 62 in Bihar

Patna, July 30 (UNI) With reports of 12 more deaths today, the toll in the current fury of flood in Bihar rose to 62, while the overall situation remained grave.

The flood situation deteriorated further, forcing closure of all educational institutions in the affected districts of North Bihar facing crisis of essentials.

The toll in Muzaffarpur district was 14, while in Darbhanga the toll stood at two.

Official sources here said 15 people drowned in Bhagalpur, 14 in Sitamarhi, four each in Bagha and Gaya, three each in Gopalganj and Madhubani, two in Raxaul and one in Patna.

Altogether 28,20,000 people had been affected by the current flood as 74 blocks in ten districts were totally marooned.

These districts were facing severe crisis of essentials as road and rail transport had been badly hit there.

Official reports from Bagha in West Champran district stated that about three lakh cusec water was released from the Balmikinagar Gandak Barrage by Nepal in the Gandak, following which over 100 villages of the district were inundated.

Traffic on Bettiah-Bagha Main Road was snapped, resulting in crisis of essentials in the district.
