Five-member gang arrested
Kolhapur, July 30 (UNI) Five-member gang of inter-state robbers involved in stealing 16 tonnes of sugar worth about Rs 2.5 lakh from a transporter, have been arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, police said.
The gang-members, identified as Jarnelsingh Gurucharan Singh (53), Gafarkhan Jadurkhan (34), Prakash Harinarayan Giri (27), Rajesh Sharma (30) and Satnamsingh Sardar (29), had looted 16 tonnes sugar from transport businessman Vijay Gunumicha whom the accused had promised they would deliver sugar to a party in Bhopal. However, the said consignment never reached the other party, police said here today.
Based on the complaint by Gunumicha, the police arrested the five accused from Indore and brought them here. A local court has remanded the accused to police custody for a week, sources added.
