CPI(M) delegation to visit AP to enthuse anti-Govt movement

Kolkata, July 30 (UNI) As the Khammam incident triggered a new confrontation between the Congress and the Marxists, the CPI(M)'s West Bengal unit will shorlty send a delegation to Andhra Pradesh to enthuse the anti-Government movement for land.

The CPI(M) State Committee, which met here today, condemned the July 28 police firing in which six farmers were killed and described it as unprovoked.

'' A struggle is going on in Andhra Pradesh demanding implementation of the election promises made by the Congress government. A delegation will visit Andhra Pradesh to express sympathy and solidarity with that struggle, '' the state Committee said in a statement.

CPI(M) Central Committee member and party's peasants' wing president Benoy Konar would lead the delegation.

The State Committee meeting, which was attended by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and veteran leader Jyoti Basu, among others, also decided to launch a fortnight-long movement from August 16, demanding change in the UPA Government's ''anti-people'' policies.

The main demands would include central intervention into the soaring prices of food grains, ban on future trading of essentials, strengthening of the public distribution system, implementationm of pro-employment economic policy and measures against communal forces.
