Congress committee meets cargo-affected people
Nagpur, July 30 (UNI) A three-member Congress committee has sought adequate compensation and proper rehabilitation for the people affected by the Multi-modal International Hub at Nagpur (MIHAN) project.
The three-member committee, constituted by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to study the project-affected people's problems, include former MLC Kanhaiyyalal Gidwani, former MP Usha Chaudhari and MLC and trade union leader S Q Zama.
Addressing a news conference here last evening, Mr Gidwani, the committee convenor, said the committee would submit a detailed report of its visit to state Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. The report will also be submitted to the concerned departments of the Central Government.
Since the land of the people, settled there for years, is now being used for commercial purposes, they are justified in seeking compensation as per the prevailing market rates, he added.
Earlier in the day, Mr Gidwani had also visited Shivangaon and other villages covered in the project. This is the fourth visit by any political party to the project-affected people here.
Earlier, Shiv Sena, CPI (M) and BJP leaders had visited the people here and expressed solidarity with them.
