Call for unity among trade unions

Chennai, July 30 (UNI) The New Trade Union Initiative (NTUI) today called upon all the trade unions in the country to forge a united struggle on common demands agreed by all.

Briefing the newspersons on the deleberations of the first general council meeting which concluded here today, NITU Secretary Gautam Mody and Treasurer M Subbu said a resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting.

The meeting called for unity among various trade unions and to help ''build grassroots resistance against imperialist globalisation and forge these struggles in solidarity with all other progressive forces into a national struggle.

The meeting demanded the immediate repeal of SEZ Act, 2005, rejection of Costal Management Zone (CMZ) and opposed the repeal of Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) notification.

The meeting also requested the Central and State Governments to create employment opportunities in agriculture and industry , to eradicate the contract labour system and to regularise the services of the existing contract labourers.

It wanted immediate implementation of a national Universal Social Security Legislation for the protection of interest of the working class. It also demanded regulation of work, within the purview of the Regulation Bill that looks separately at agriculture and other categories of work.
