Mumbai, July 30 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Raj Hans Singh has accused the civic body of showing lethargy in checking rain-related diseases in the metropolis.

Mr Singh blamed the civic officials for the spread of rain-related diseases.

In a letter to the mayor, Mr Singh has stressed the need for urgent measures to check the spread.

Congress corporators Kamlesh Rai and Samir Desai also voiced concern over the spread of the diseases, especially in the slums.

Shiv Sena corporator Shraddha Jadhav while maintaining that the administration is taking steps to check the spread, said more needs to be done in the slum areas which are susceptible to such diseases.

The civic officials, on the other hand, maintained that regular fogging and cleaning of drains were being carried out in the slum areas. But, Standing Committee chairman Ravindra Waikar emphasised that such work needs to be carried out in a much better way.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastava defended the administration and said that the BMC is doing its job well and is taking every steps to check the diseases.
