Punjab: Committee to mark 150th yr of independence

Chandigarh, July 30: The Punjab Government has constituted a state level committee to celebrate 150th anniversary of the call given in 1857 by the then Namdhari sect leader Sat Guru Ram Singh, asking the British to quit India.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be the Chairman of this committee while Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal will be its Vice Chairman.

The official members of the committee would include the ministers for Local Bodies Minister, Rural Development, Cooperation, Finance, Parliamentary Affairs, Jails and Tourism and Information and Public Relations, Other official members would be the Opposition Leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, SAD acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal, BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna besides the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Principal Secretary Finance and Secretary Information and Public Relations.

The non-official members would include Jagroop Singh of CPI, Balwant Singh of CPM, Avtar Singh Karimpuri of BSP, Prof Rajinder Bhandari of BJP, Shamsher Singh Dullo of Congress, Balwant Singh Ramuwalia of Lok Bhalai Party, former MLA Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, Surinder Singh Namdhari, Harpal singh Namdhari and Udey Singh Namdhari of gurudwara Bhaini Sahib, the headquarters of the Namdhari sect.

Director, Information and Public Relations will be the member secretary of the committee. The committee will suggest suitable action to celebrate the year-long programmes.
