29th convention of Infantry Commanders gets underway

Indore, July 30 (UNI) The three-day 29th convention of Infantry Commanders began at historical 'Som' hall in Infantry School in Mhow near here today.

Senior Army officials from various commands, operational institutions and training institutes would take part in the biennial convention.

During the convention, discussions would be held on important topics such as army activities training and management besides change in modern warfare technology and structure and training of battles in future.

Apart from discussing problems of infantry, the convention would pay attention to various aspects to reduce the mental tension of army jawans posted in counter emergency operation.

The convention would deliberate on various methods to improve the image of infantry.

'Som' hall has been named after Major Somnath, who died while defending the Srinagar valley in 1947. He was later decorated with 'Paramveer Chakra'.

An exhibition of weapons was also organised today.

Army Chief General J J Singh would take part in the discussion tomorrow. Later, after paying floral tributes at the Infantry Memorial, he would inaugurate Army Marksmanship Unit's shooting range.
