Violence in Nandigram, 12 hr bandh on July 30
Nandigram, July 29: Fresh violence erupted here todday as CPI(M) and Trinamool-led Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee (BUPC) clashed leading to the BUPC calling a 12-hour bandh tomorrow.
Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivasan here said the CPI(M)'s zonal committee party office was ransacked and police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.
'' We have set up police pickets, manned by RAF and SAP, across the village to avoid any untoward incident,'' he added.
The BUPC supporters had gheraoed the police station and called the bandh protesting lathicharge.
BUPC leader Abu Taher claimed that at least 50 of their supporters were injured in police lathicharge and bomb explosions by CPI(M) activists.
However, local CPI(M) leader Asoke Guria alleged that three of their supporters had been kidnapped by BUPC supporters.
Meanwhile, the situation was tense as gun-battle between the two groups spread to Satengabari, Bhangabera and Tekhali.
