Two CPI(M) activists killed: two BUPC seriously injured

Nandigram, Jul 29 (UNI) Violence in Nandigram intensified today with the death of two CPI(M) cadres and injuries to as many Trinamool Congress-led Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) supporters.

Police said CPI(M) and BUPC supporters fired at each other near the Talpati canal.

The BUPC activists shot dead one CPI(M) cadre at Talpati canal while he was coming to Nandigram from Khejuri and another at Tekhali market.

Meanwhile, two Trinamool supporters were shot at by CPI(M) cadres and were rushed to a nearby hospital, police said.

Fresh violence had erupted since morning as CPI(M) and BUPC clashed against each other.

The BUPC had called a 12-hour bandh tomorrow protesting against the police lathicharge and had gheraoed the police station.

Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivasan here said the CPI(M)'s zonal committee party office was ransacked and police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

BUPC leader Abu Taher claimed that at least 50 of their supporters were injured in police lathicharge and bomb explosions by CPI(M) activists.

However, local CPI(M) leader Asoke Guria alleged that three of their supporters had been kidnapped by BUPC supporters.
