Tripura demands separate cadre in IAS, IPS, IFS

Agartala, July 29: The Tripura government has demanded to constitute a separate cadre for the state and abolish joint Manipur-Tripura cadre for IAS, IPS and IFS officers.

In a meeting with the members of second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC), headed by M Veerappa Moily during it's recent visit, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, ''The system of cadre management by the Centre must be changed at once.'' Talking to media here today, Mr Sarkar said Tripura is a separate state with its distinctive socio-economic and political realities and it was imperative that a separate cadre for Tripura was instituted soon.

The Centre had fixed 102 IAS officers for Tripura but at present the state have only 14 officers, Mr Sarkar underlined adding ''Unfortunately most of the IAS officers do not want to work in Tripura and given the chance, they join multinational companies and corporations with fat salaries.'' As many as eight senior IAS officers had left the state early this year and many of the officers marry cadre in other states and seek a change of posting, taking advantage of service conduct rules, Chief Minister pointed out.

Official sources said, the ARC had agreed with his contention on separation of cadre with the pleading of Chief Minister and assured him it would be taken care of at the time of preparation of next report.
