NABARD may provide assistance package to Co-op banks
Kolhapur, July 29 (UNI) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Chairman Dr Yashwant Thorat today said that they are considering to provide assistance package to the co-operative banks in Maharashtra.
Talking to reporters here, Dr Thorat said that the co-operative banks are presently passing through a bad phase.
He said he has discussed this issue with the State government as the co-operative banks in the State are incurring losses of about Rs 1,500 crore.
State sugar industry is also not running satisfactorily due to surplus sugarcane produce, sugar product and low price of sugar in world market, hence farmers should go for by products and other crops, Dr thorat added.
