Media helps 'lost' children reunite with families

Guwahati, Jul 29 (UNI) Many years might have elapsed since they last hugged their families, but when Pinki and Devasish met them again today, they relinquished mankind's faith in the sanctity of familial bonds.

All bonds might slacken with time, but time failed to destroy the love between the lost children and their families. On the contrary, the long seperation had strengthened the bond.

Pinki and Devasish were reunited with their families today by the efforts of an NGO 'Snehalaya', where they lived until now as orphans. Their stories had first appeared drawn the public attention last month, when, through a press conference, they had narrated their tale and expressed their desire to be reunited with their families.

Pinki, now a young woman of 20, had gone missing from a house in Nagaon town where she was employed as a domestic help. It had been 11 years ago that her family, who lived in Dibrugarh, saw her off to Nagaon.

Being separated from her family, young Pinki cried to go back home and when her employer told her to go away, she practically took to her heels and was left alone to fend for herself.

Pinki was brought to Snehalaya three years back and the untiring efforts of the NGO helped her unite with her parents.

Her parents and siblings were delighted with the news of her safety as all their efforts to trace her had been unsuccessful.

If a perfect family completed Pinki's reunion picture, Devasish Kar's reunion with his mother was another happy ending to an orphan's yearning to be close to his family.

Devasish had been in the orphanage for the past one year after the demise of his father. He had come to live with his father following the separation his parents about eight years back.

Devasish, seven years old then, had always longed for his mother and younger brother and when his news appeared in the media last month, his mother immediately came forward to take back her long separated son.
