Greater Kashmir reporter bags environment award

Srinagar, July 29 (UNI) A journalist working with 'Greater Kashmir,' a leading English daily from here, was awarded the first 'Sher-i-Kashmir Award for Environmental Awareness' for extensive reporting on environment.

Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah presented the award to Arif Shafi Wani at a function here last evening.

The function was organised by a non-governmental organisation, the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Society (JKRDC), in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

On the occasion, JKRDC chairman and NC legislator Mubarak Gul hailed the role of Greater Kashmir for highlighting environment- related issues.

Wani has extensively covered environment-related issues, particularly the deteriorating condition of the world famous Dal Lake, for quite some time now.
