Dancevic upsets Roddick in Indianapolis semi
INDIANAPOLIS, July 29 (Reuters) Canadian Frank Danevic upset top-seeded Andy Roddick 6-4 7-6 in the Indianapolis championships to reach his first ATP final.
American Roddick struggled to cope with the heat which soared to 42 degrees Celsius, dropping his serve in the ninth game of the first set.
''I didn't have much to give out there,'' said Roddick, who won the title in 2003 and 2004. ''I wish I had a reason for you.
I don't know why. I wasn't feeling that well.'' Dancevic drove here from his Niagara Falls home when he was told late last week he was the last player to receive direct acceptance into the Indianapolis main draw.
''This was probably the best victory of my career,'' said Dancevic, who posted his first career victory against a top 10 player yesterday.
''This is definitely a surprise week. I would've been happy to be in the final of a Challenger (event) this week and now I'm in the final of a tour event.'' Dancevic will play the winner of the semi-final between third-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia and unseeded Sam Querrey of the United States in today's final.
Roddick, who had reached the Indianapolis semi-finals four of the last five years, had trouble with his serve.
While he aced Dancevic eight times, Roddick only had a 47 percent first serve per centage.
''I served horribly today - I served pretty badly the whole week,'' Roddick said.
The second set went to a tiebreak where Roddick won only the opening point with an ace.
