AP Opposition parties demand judicial inquiry into firing

Hyderabad, July 29 (UNI) An Opposition parties meeting, convened by the Left parties in Andhra Pradesh, demanded that the Government appoint a sitting High Court judge to inquire into the police firing at Mudigonda in Khammam district yesterday, which left six people dead.

The meeting demanded an exgratia of Rs ten lakh and a government job to each of the families of the victims.

Later, the Opposition parties organised a massive rally in the city, demanding action against the police officials responsible for the firing.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State President B V Raghavulu said the party strongly condemned the police firing and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister.

CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechuri, who reached here to visit Mudigonda, said he agreed with the State Committee's demand for the Chief Minister's resignation. A report on this would be submitted to the Central Committee, he added.

CPI National Executive Member Prabudas Gupta, condemning the incident, said the party would raise the issue in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu visited Mudigonda and consoled the family members of the victims.

He demanded the Chief Minister's resignation and announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh from the party to the next of kin of the victims.

TDP Deputy Leader in the Assembly T Devender Goud, TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Mr Raghavulu and CPI State Secretary K Narayana were among those who participated in the meeting.
