Amendement to APMC Act was aimed to help farmers: Minister

Mysore, July 29 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Agriculture Bandappa Kashapanawar today said that the amendment to APMC Act was aimed at helping the farmers.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said that the step to amend the act was taken after a careful study and provide suitable prices to the farmers produces by avoiding middlemen. Of course, there would be opposition from some section for the act, however, more or less all the farming community in the state has supported the act whole hartedly, he claimed.

He said that the State government has already released Rs 88 crores for the subsidy to the farmers for purchase of seeds to help medium and small farmers. Last year the government had released Rs 87 crores for the same purpose. Following good rains through out the state and food production may be reached more then the target.

Referring to the seed act of the central government, he said the state government has already submitted their suggestions and views to the union government on the proposed seed act. He would also call a meeting of top officials of the agriculture department again to study the issue further.
