3 Airstrips to come up: street vendors to be regulated in UP

Lucknow, July 29 (UNI) The Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government today decided to give a contract to RITES for construction of airstrips at three towns of the state, besides approving a proposal of the Allahabad High Court to appoint 95 trainee law clerk on a contract basis.

The government has also decided to amend the Act on street vendors and hawkers in order to regulate them as per the law.

The state cabinet decided to hand over the construction of airstrips and other required facilities at Moradabad, Azamgarh and Chitrakoot to Public sector RITES ( Airport Division).

In another decision, the BSP government will recruit 95 law graduates of the law institutes of the country on the post of trainee law clerk for one year term on a monthly pay of Rs 10,000.

The state government took the decision on recommendation of the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court for such clerks to assist the judges.

Each trainee will be attached with a judge and they will work according to the schedule job chart prepared for them before they join their duty.

The government, on recommendation of the Supreme Court, has decided to amend the UP State urban and road side vendor business Act to regulate the hawkers and street vendors.

Under the new law, all street vendors will be given license, while child labour will be banned. Besides, the Act will also provide enough provision so that the vendors do not obstruct to smooth traffic.

Now, a vendor committee will be set up in all corporations, municipalities and wards, which will see the day to day problems of the vendors.

All the street vendors will be provided with identity cards with code numbers. No person under the age of 14 years would be given the license, which will be renewed after three years of issue.

The BSP government has also amended the gradation of providing government land for agriculture purpose and building houses with SC/ST, Other backwards and the people residing Below Poverty Line (BPL).
