Andaman: Timber worth Rs 45000 seized, 2 held
Port Blair, Jul 28: Andaman and Nicobar police today seized 40 pieces of precious Andaman Timber, 'Padauk', worth Rs 45000.
About two people were arrested for illegally transporting Paduak from the forest here, Superintendent of Police Ashok Chand told UNI.
He said a police team on patrol at Dignabad seashore of south Andaman island suspected the activities of the miscreants while loading of timbers in a pickup van at Cholanga jetty.
The team raided the area and arrested one person and the driver ofthe van. However, the rest escaped in the dark, Mr Chand said adding that about 40 pieces of timber were recovered.
On inquiry it was found that the miscreants were smuggling the timbers.
Both the persons have been remanded to Judicial custody, he said.
