Take appropriate decision on agricultural issues: Reddy
Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, July 28 (UNI) Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy today called upon all political parties to take an appropriate decision on the basic issues of agriculture to avoid turmoil.
Speaking as Chief Guest at a seminar organised by Andhra Pradesh paddy producers here, Mr Reddy regretted that there was no hike in paddy production at the national level for the last eight years.
He opined, ''we should have treated this type of numb situation as the turmoil and turbulence among farming community.'' He stated at this juncture, there was a need to import paddy from other countries and regretted that it was a worrying and oscillating issue.
He suggested the English magazines to focus on the analytical articles on farming community in a big way.
He pointed out that the Centre had appointed an Agriculture Commission, headed by father of green revolution Dr M S Swaminathan in 2004, and according to its recommendations it had started the Bharat Nirman scheme for the benefit of rural sector. As part of this, the government had taken up steps to supply irrigation water to 2.50 crore acres of land, credit facility through banking sector and other issues.
