Section 144 CrPC clamped in view of Lok Sabha bypoll

Jamshedpur, July 28 (UNI) The East Singhbhum district administration has promulgated a prohibitory order under section 144 of the CrPC in view of the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-poll slated for August 29.

The prohibitory order, issued by Dhalbhum Sub-divisinal Officer Ganesh Kumar, was imposed yesterday, sources here today said.

With the imposition of the order, political parties were barred from holding meetings or rallies without the consent of the authorities concerned.

Besides, assemblies of more than six people and using arms and lethal weapons were banned.

However, religious and social gatherings were kept out of the prohibition, official sources said.

Meanwhile, District Deputy Commissioner and Election Officer Nitin Madan Kulkarni met the senior officials to discuss the coming bypoll.

Mr Kulkarni also formed four cells and seven committees, comprising senior officials, for the smooth conduct of the by-poll.

The notification of the bypoll would be issued on August three, while the filing and withdrawing of nomination papers would be on August 10 and 13 respectively and the counting would be held on August 31.
