Road, rail traffic blocked to protest against toll plazas

Hoshiarpur, July 28 (UNI) Members of Punjab Sangarsh Committee (PSC) today blocked vehicular and rail traffic in the district at various places in response to their 'Chakka Jam' call.

The call was given to pressurise the state government for removing the toll-plazas installed at Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) roads on Balachaur-Dasuya and Hoshiarpur-Tanda routes.

Traffic on Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar Railway section was paralysed for more than an hour as members of the PSC led by their President Harish Khosla squatted on the railway track at Hoshiarpur-Phagwara railroad crossing due to which 7JH Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar passenger train was stranded at the railway station here. Later, the SDM, Hoshiarpur, intervened and the traffic was resumed.

Mr Khosla said that the PSC had given an ultimatum to the Punjab government for removing all the toll plazas. He threatened to intensify the stir if their demand was not met within 15 days.

SSP Ms Anita Punj claimed that vehicular traffic had been diverted at all the blockade points for the smooth running of vehicles and to avoid any inconvenience to the public. No untoward incident had been reported from any corner of the district.
