Puducherry, July 28: Refuting AIADMK Secretary A Anbazhagan's claim that four out of the seven private medical colleges here had obtained deemed university status, PMK Parliamentary Party leader M Ramadass today challenged Mr Anbazhagan's statement and demanded an apology or his resignation if his statement was proved wrong.

Lambasting Mr Anbazhagan for his statement that the two MPs from Puducherry had failed to discharge their duties and allowed the medical colleges to obtain deemed university status, Prof Ramadass said the Vinayaga Mission Medical College, Karaikal and Arupadaiveedu Medical College had become affiliate of the Vinayaga Mission Deemed University, Salem and the Lakshminarayana Medical College with Bharath Deemed University, Chennai.

He said the two universities obtained the deemed status five years ago.

Stating that the MPs or the Centre could not be blamed on the issue, Mr Ramadass said the Puducherry administration could have prevented it by not issuing the required certificates.

All the requisite certificates were issued by the local government and the Lakshminarayana Medical College got the deemed university status following a court order, he added.
