Police identifies bodies of victims killed in firing

Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) The district police today identified the bodies of eight people, including a woman, who were killed in the police firing at Mudigonda village in Khammam district, when they pelted stones on police during the agitation.

Police said the bodies were identified as V Gopaiah, K Peddalaxmi, P Kutumba Rao, V Veeraiah, D Jayaraju, J Balaswami, B Gopaiah and Venkateswari. All the deceased belonged to Left parties.

Meanwhile, the state Director General of Police (DGP) M A Basith told newspersons the government would order an investigation into the incident with the Additional Director General of police. He suspected that some 'anti-social elements' had provoked the incident.

The Left party workers were staging dharna before the Khammam Collectorate demanding compensation to the bereaved families of victims and to book murder case against the local Sub Inspector and Circle Inspector.

The district administration was holding talks with the Left leaders to solve the issue.
