Major tragedy averted in Kashmir, IED detected and defused

Srinagar, July 28 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by militants in north Kashmir to target security forces.

A police spokesman said a patrol noticed an IED planted by militants at Tulibal, Sopore, about 50 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

The area was immediately sealed off and all those present were taken to safer places.

Later, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the IED without causing any damage.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a militant of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Tariq Ahmad Shala along with one hand grenade at Amargarh, Sopore.
