Lathicharge on CPI, CPI(M) activists, leaders arrested
Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Police lathicharged CPI and CPI(M) workers and arrested party leaders as they staged a dharna as part of state-wide bandh, demanding distribution of land and house sites to the poor, here today.
Police said the CPI and CPI(M) leaders, including party MLAs, were arrested for organising road blockades in the city.
The arrested leaders included CPI Floor leader CH Venkat Reddy and CPI(M) leader T Veerbhadram.
The activists of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), supporting the bandh, participated in the dharna.
Reports from other district headquarters said the Left activists staged dharnas on national highways, obstructing vehicular traffic.
In Nalgonda district, the activists pelted stones at buses.
In Warangal district, the Left and TDP activists staged rail blockade at railway stations.
Meanwhile, CPI and CPI(M) state Secretaries K Narayana and B V Raghavulu, holding fast, were arrested and admitted to NIMS hospital.
