Naga: Landslides destroy 54 houses in Mon town

Kohima, Jul 28: About 54 houses were destroyed in a series of landslides at Nagaland's Mon district following incessant rains since past few days.

Officials here said about 24 houses were completely destroyed at Mon whereas 30 other were damaged in Techa and Jahjon wards of the town yesterday. However, there were no reports of casualty so far.

A huge chunk of earth caved in and swept away the houses nearby, sources said.

The Konjong School and Mission Centre were also destoyed following which the students were unable to attend the schoool.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) W Honje Konyak had assessed the extent of damages and discussed the matter with the town leaders.

A local Emergency Committee had also been set up for addressing the immediate needs.
