IIIT-H developing new system to overcome lingustic barriers
Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Different lingustic communities will soon be able to communicate at ease thanks to advanced language technology being developed by the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)here along with nine other institutes in the country.
Talking to reporters, IIIT-H Director Rajeev Sangal said 18 months from now, advanced technology to translate texts from various Indian languages would be available.
Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Bangla, Marathi, Tamil and Malayalam were being covered under the prestigious project.
Efforts were on to develop translation of text to speech and vic-versa, IIIT-H Chairman Raj Reddy said the institute was working on a new laptop computer with television and telephone for the Indian masses.
The Institute was concentrating on advanced research in IT-power and space technology, Dr Sangal added.
