Kochi, July 28 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today announced that it will launch a Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Research in Management (PGDTRM) in collaboration with the Kerala Management Association.

Addressing a press conference here, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai and National Professor M V Pylee said the course was aimed to meet the increasing shortage of management teachers in the country.

More than 1,500 business schools of the country did not have the required number of qualified teachers as per the AICTE norms. While the AICTE required these schools to have at least nine full-time teachers, most of them were functioning only with four permanent teachers and guest faculty.

Prof Pillai said the IGNOU was aiming to launch the new programme by July, 2008. The first meeting of the expert committee to draw up the syllabus and course structure was held here today.

Experts from IIMs Kozhikode, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, CUSAT, IGNOU and KMA and other leading institutions were a part of the expert committee.

The one-year programme would be broken up into smaller modules, the VC said.

KMA President P Ravindranath said the Association, which had completed 50 years, was collaborating with the programme as a Golden Jubilee initiative.
