Governor directs CM to prove majority in Assembly on Monday
Panaji, July 28 (UNI) Goa Governor S C Jamir today directed Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to prove his majority on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Mr Jamir sent the directive to the Chief Minister under Article 175 of the Constitution this afternoon, even as the anti-Congress coalition of the Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) paraded its members at Rashtrapati Bhawan for a head count.
Confirming the receipt of the order, Mr Kamat told UNI that the sole business of the House, when it meets on Monday, is the floor test and the rest will be decided later.
''I have no worries. I am well prepared. No problem,'' he quipped.
Transacting the remainder of the business, including the crucial adoption of the finance bill for the current fiscal, depends on the outcome of the trial of strength, he said.
The vote-on-account budget adopted last February is valid till this month-end and the new funds have to be infused for government transactions, including payment of salaries, if the House adopts the finance bill by Tuesday.
The House was originally scheduled till Tuesday. If the Kamat government fails to prove its majority, the new dispensation will have to do it by the month-end to avoid a crisis.
