Four labourers killed in earthern wall collapse

Jalandhar, July 28 (UNI) As many as four labourers were killed when the earthern wall of an under constructed basement caved-in here today.

Nearly 32 workers were working at the time of the incident. When the wall collapsed, 10 workers were trapped, six workers, who were half buried, were rescued and rushed to civil hospital. Four of them were discharged after first aid, said Civil Surgeon JP Singh.

The deceased hailing from eastern Uttar Pradesh have been identified as Swami Dayal, Ajay Kumar, Dinesh and Sunil.

Army was called in for the rescue operation. It took nearly five hours to retrieve the four persons trapped inside the clay.

Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu, who was present during the entire rescue operation along with other senior administrative and police officials, marked an inquiry into the incident.

Local Body Minister Manoranjan Kalia, who visited the spot, also directed the officials to probe the incident and to take strict action against the officials found guilty. He also told them to review all the under construction commercial site in the city.
