Manual scavengers risking their lives, says Modhwadia

Ahmedabad, Jul 27 (UNI) Eighty manual scavengers have lost their life so far while cleaning gutters and exposed to noxious fumes, said leader of the opposition in State Assembly Arjun Modhwadia.

In a release here today, Mr Modhwadia said that there are an estimated 20,000 scavengers who manually clean gutters in the State.

These people are still being allowed to enter gutters by the State government at a cost of extreme risk to their lives.

If the BJP does not utter a single word for the 80 Valmiki scavengers who died so far then these people would continue to languish in official apathy, Mr Modhwadia said.
