Chennai, July 26 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), in association with the State Transport Corporation, has proposed to introduce a scheme 'Hop on Hop off' in the city this year to facilitate frequently visiting tours.

Under the new scheme, a tourist could board the bus at any location and alight at any stop for seeing tourist attractions in the city at their convenience, TTDC officials informed here today.

In this concept, there was no fixed time schedule to be followed and the tourist could spend as much time as required at any tourist attraction according to his/her interest.

Apart from this, considering the number of tourists visiting Mamallapuram on the outskirts of the city, the Shore Temple and Five Rathas area would be developed at a cost of Rs five crore with parking lot and landscaping. The development plan also included construction of 100 shops. Under Phase-II, a sum of Rs 432 lakhs had been sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism.

As part of the development of Mamallapuram, it was also proposed to establish a Sculptors Park for tsunami-affected sculptors and artisans through the Rural Development Department. The park would have additional facilities to attract tourists who visit Mamallapuram to boost sale of products and educate them on the evolution/history of stone architecture in the area, and help in documenting and propagating the craft as well.

It would also house a restaurant, reception and an information centre for tourists, the officials informed.
