TN to appoint 8,795 Anganwadi staff this year

Tiruchirapalli, July 26: The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered the appointment of 8,795 Anganwadi workers and assistants this year, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said.

Delivering his special address at the third State-level conference of Tamil Nadu Government Anganwadi Employees Association here last evening, he said that of the total 8,795 appointments, 2,361 would be of Anganwadi Centre Workers and the remaining Anganwadi Centre Assistants.

Soon after the DMK government assumed office, over 1,922 Anganwadi Centre Workers and 4,966 Anganwadi Centre Assistants were appointed, he added.

Mr Stalin said the Union Government had granted permission to the state for starting an additional 1,539 Anganwadi Centres and 3,168 Anganwadi Sub-centres this year.

Over 23.96 lakh children would be benefited from the 45,726 Anganwadi Centres functioning across the state, he added.

The Minister assured the Anganwadi employees that the Government would favourably consider their various demands, including regularisation of service, pension scheme and basic pay structure on par with Government employees.
