Varanasi, July 26 (UNI) The arrest of a private tutor here last night in connection with West Bengal Medical Entrance Exam scam has thrown a new challenge before Varanasi police of breaking a thriving network of youth making quick bucks by appearing for aspiring medicos in entrance tests outside Uttar Pradesh.

Babli Kazmi (32) was nabbed from New Loco Colony under Cantonment police station area by officials of the detective department of Kolkata Police for allegedly appearing in 2007 West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) on behalf of one Rupa Majumdar, who resultantly secured the 707th rank in the test for admission to medical colleges of the Eastern state.

''Early investigation suggest the private tutor had not only appeared on behalf of an aspiring medico in West Bengal, but had also flown to Bangalore to appear on behalf of other candidate in a medical entrance test of Karnataka,'' an official of the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police told UNI today.

This case has certainly underscored the need for a thorough probe of a thriving network of youth raking in moolah by appearing on behalf of aspiring doctors not only in medical entrance exams in the state, but also outside UP. the official added.

Interestingly, Ranvijay Pathak -- the mastermind of the entire racket -- too is a resident of Varanasi only and was arrested by the Kolkata Police on July 21.

Babli, had been privately coaching secondary and higher secondary students for the past few years and kept herself updated with the medical entrance syllabus. She got involved in the medical entrance impersonation racket through Pathak only, STF sources added.

The aspiring doctor Rupa Majumdar, on whose behalf Babli, appeared in the WB examination and is also a resident of this holy city, but had filled up the exam form by falsely declaring self to be a resident of Durgapur in West Bengal, sources claimed.

Babli is the eldest child of Mujahid Hussain, a Group-D employee of Varanasi Nagar Nigam. She grew up in New Loco Colony with her brothers Imran and Zeeshan.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Kolkata Police has initiated a probe into the medical entrance scam. State home secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy had said the government might order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, if necessary.
