Present state govt is all time best, say Jammuites

Jammu, July 26 (UNI) The Present Congress-led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir is the all time favorite of the people of this multi-ethnic region, an opinion poll today said.

The state coalition government led by Congressman Ghulam Nabi Azad, who succeeded Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) after the first three years of regime as per mutual accord between the allies, has honoured the promises made to the people, according to the 70 per cent of respondents to a survey conducted by a regional english daily Kashmir Images.

Riding on the slogan of 'Khushaal Jammu and Kashmir', the Congress has gained popularity among the people of the Jammu region.

At least 45 per cent of over 10,000 respondents across all the 10 districts of Jammu voted Congress as ''the most favourite political party'' in the coming assembly elections in 2008-2009. The National Conference (NC) was voted second by 26 per cent of the people, followed by PDP with 18 per cent. The BJP and the National Panthers Party each got two per cent people in their favour.

On corruption, 75 per cent opined that Mr Azad has seriously addressed the issue while former Chief Ministers Mr Sayeed and Mr Farooq Abdullah were considered by 18 and seven per cent of respondents respectively for their fight against this social evil.
