Passengers protest cancellation of flights, get accomodation
Kolkata, July 26 (UNI) Angry about cancellation of their flight to Silchar, several passengers of Alliance Air shouted slogans in the security-hold area of the NSCBI Airport today.
The passengers had earlier checked in for the flight scheduled to leave at 1400 hours. However, the departure was delayed due to torrential rains at Silchar.
The airline officials then asked the passengers to wait until the weather improved. But, the flight had to be ultimately cancelled at 1730 hours as the weather deteriorated.
The 89 passengers then protested and demanded that some arrangement be made for them.
Generally, Alliance Air do not provide accomodation to passengers in the event of cancellation of flights. However, in this case, the authorities agreed to do so to cope with the angry protestors, an airlines official explained.
Meanwhile, bad weather also forced a domestic carrier Indian flight to return from Agartala at 1530 hours after failing to land there.
Another flight of Indian to Bagdogra also returned after hovering over its destination city due to bad weather. The Jet Airways flight to Bagdogra from Kolkata was diverted to Guwahati after failing to land at Bagdogra.
The flight made a second attempt to land at Bagdogra but failed again due to the continuing bad weather.
