Lok Ayukta raids houses of two MCC Planning Officers

Mangalore, July 26 (UNI) The sleuths of Lok Ayukta have raided the houses of two Assistant Town Planning Officers (ATPO) of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and seized documents validating accumulation of wealth disproportionate to their known source of income.

Talking to newspersons here today, Lok Ayukta Police Superintendent Chandrashekar Prasad said the houses of Manjunathaswamy and Shivaraj were raided till late mid-night yesterday and gold ornaments worth total Rs 6.5 lakh, other documents such as bank balance, receipts of LIC bonds were also seized.

They also confiscated two cheques of Rs ten lakh.

He said the raids were conducted based on the complaints under Section 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Sleuths from Chikmagalore, Mysore, Koorg, Udupi and Hassan districts assisted the raids.

Mr Prasad said while Manjunathaswamy had assets worth Rs 46 lakh which included a car, motor bike, gold ornaments, LIC bonds, Shivaraj had assets worth Rs 75 lakh including two houses, LIC bonds, a car, motor bike and vacant land.

He said the sleuths had raided Manjunathaswamy's father's house at Birur in Chikmagalore district, but could not find any documents.

However, no arrest had been made, he added.
