Lok Ayukta raid the houses of two MCC Asst. Town Planning Officers

Mangalore, July 26 (UNI) The sleuths of Lok Ayukta raided the houses of two Assistant Town Planning Officers (ATPO) of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) yesterday and seized various documents pertaining to bank balance, bonds and gold ornaments which were found disproportionate their source of income.

Talking to newsmen here today, Lok Ayukta Police Superintendent Chandrashekar Prasad said that the houses of Manjunathaswamy and Shivaraj were raided till late mid-night and seized gold ornaments worth total Rs 6.5 lakh from duo besides other documents such as bank balance, receipts of LIC bonds. They also confiscated two cheques worth Rs 10 lakh.

He said that the raid was conducted based on the complaints under section 13 of prevention of corruption act. Five districts sleuths from Chikmagalore, Mysore, Koorg, Udupi and Hassan assisted in the raid. The duo who have the known source of income of Rs 12000 per month as take home salary, last year in a Lok Ayukta raid by a few fake Lok Ayukta personnel had paid them Rs 12 lakh. The duos have earned the properties disproportionate to their source of income, he said.

Mr Prasad said that while Manjunathaswamy earned property worth Rs 46 lakh which included car, Motor bike, gold ornaments, LIC bonds, Shivaraj owned property worth Rs 75 lakh including two houses, LIC bonds, a car, Motor bike and vacant land. No cash was found in the offices of the duo, he said.

He said that both Manjunathaswamy and Shivaraj joined in 1989.

The Lok Ayukta was yet to verify on any property owned by the duo outside the district. The sleuths have raided the father's house of Manjunathaswamy in Birur in Chikmagalore district, but could not fund any documents, he said adding that however, no arrest had been made.
