Khalsa Action Committee demand Bittu's release
Chandigarh, July 26 (UNI) The Khalsa Action Committee (KAC), a conglomeration of certain 'panthic' groups today staged a protest 'dharna' near the official residence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today demanding the release of Akali Dal (Amritsar) vice president Daljit Singh Bittu.
Policemen stopped the protestors near Punjab Bhavan and did not allow them to proceed to the CMs residence. While they were sitting on a 'dharna', the CMs Advisor Dr D S Cheema met them and assured them to convey their message to Mr Badal.
They handed over a poster demanding the arrest of Bittu to Dr Cheema. Bittu was arrested last week on sedition charges for raising anti national slogans during a protest against Dera Sacha Sauda at Fathegarh Sahib last month.
The nine-member KAC included former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode, Damdami Taksal spokesman Mokham Singh and Dal Khalsa activist Kanwarpal Singh Bittu.
Meanwhile, a court in Fatehgarh Sahib remanded Bittu to police custody till July 28. He was presented to the court on expiry of his police remand today.
