Kerala Assembly congratulates new President

Thiruvananthapuram, July 26: The Kerala Assembly today extended warm greetings to Ms Pratibha Patil, who took over as the first woman President of the country.

During Zero Hour, Speaker K Radhakrishan said the House extended its whole-hearted greetings to Ms Patil and wished her all success.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said the election of Ms Patil was a victory for secularism and it added significance because a woman could reach the top most post.

Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said her victory had upheld the rich traditions and secular values.
