Inquiry into appointments in Barkatullah University

Bhopal, July 26: Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Tukojirao Pawar today told the Assembly that an inquiry would be conducted into the alleged irregularities in the appointment of teachers in the Barkatullah University last year.

Mr Pawar made the announcement that the inquiry would be conducted by the Principal Secretary of the department while replying to supplementary question by Mr Arif Akil (Cong) during the Question Hour.

Earlier, Mr Pawar had claimed that rules had been adhered to while making appointments. However, Mr Akil alleged that rules had been violated.

During the Question Hour, Mr Bahadur Singh Chouhan (Cong) demanded inquiry into alleged irregularities into appointments at various levels in Ujjain's Vikram University after implementation of the Reservation Act, 1984.

Accepting the demand, Mr Pawar said an inquiry would be conducted in the presence of Mr Chouhan.

However, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani tried to explain the minister that the presence of the member was not required during the inquiry.

He said ministers and members should behave in a dignified manner so that they not become a subject of joke.

Replying to a supplementary question during the Question Hour, Scheduled Tribe Minister Vijay Shah said after initial inquiry last year, a departmental inquiry had started into complaints against block development officer P D Gupta and other officials in Sidhi district. He said those found guilty would not be spared and responsibility would also be fixed against officials, who delayed action against them.

When the matter of no action being taken on 1,800 applications of scholarships by children of labourers engaged in bidi production in Chhatarpur district was raised, Mr Rohani gave direction to the government for taking appropriate action.

Minister of State for Tribal Welfare Gangaram Patel said appropriate steps would be taken after obtaining exact information.

It would ascertained that when the applications were sent to the Union Labour Commissioner Office, Jabalpur.
