Govt to implement 'matsyakeralam' project: Sarma

Thiruvananthapuram, July 26 (UNI) Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma told the Assembly today that the state government was planning to implement a ''matsyakeralam'' project to promote inland fish farming in the state.

Replying to questions from Mr Babu Paul (CPI) and others, he said as a first step the government would implement the project in 10,000 hectares.

Plans were also afoot to set up cooperative societies for fish farming in dams, he said adding the government would encourage prawn farming by protecting paddy fields.
