New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved that the government bring out a white paper on disinvestment carried out since 1999, which will be placed before Parliament in the ensuing monsoon session.

Briefing newspersons on the decision of the Cabinet here, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the white paper will chronologically list the disinvestments effected by the respective governments since 1999 as also point out the merits and demerits of such disinvestments.

Mr Dasmunsi said there has been repeated pressure from the Standing Commitee of Finance to bring out a white paper and the Cabinet today approved that the government do so.

Replying to questions, the Minister said this in no way should be interpretted to mean that there would be any change in the UPA government's policy on disinvestment. The NCMP has clearly spelt out that the government is against the strategic sale of Public Sector Enterprises.
